Dr. Madesis Panagiotis was born in Thessaloniki on 19/01/1971. He is married and father of two children. He studied at the School of Agriculture Sciences of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He completed his postgraduate and doctoral studies in the Laboratory of Genetics and Plant Breeding of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. The last year of his doctoral thesis was held at the University of Manchester at the plant science lab with an emphasis on the handling of genetic material in chloroplasts. Madesis Panagiotis has completed his studies with the help of the following scholariships, Marie Curie Scholarship at the University of Manchester, IKY State Scholarship Foundation for postgraduate studies. In 2004 he received a post-doctoral position in the Chloroplast DNA study and worked at the School of Health Sciences, University of Manchester, in the plant science lab. Since October 2008 he is a Researcher at the Institute for Applied Biosciences (INEV) of the National Center for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), and the field of “The applications of modern genetics, genomics, proteomics and metabolic technology in food production and control, high added value products and organisms and molecular diagnostics. ” Research interests are focused on the improvement of plants by conventional and biotechnological methods for increasing production, resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses, producing valuable products, the genotype fingerprinting of species and varieties, the assessment of biodiversity through the identification and species identification. Hhe teaches the course “Recombinant protein production systems” at the postgraduate department of the Agricultural University of Athens and has taught the Plant Breeding lab at the Technological Educational Institute of Florina.
He is a member of the editorial board and a reviewer in scientific journals and has published more than 90 scientific studies, 4 chapters in books with a total of more than 800 citations. He has also been invited as the main speaker at a large number of national and international conferences and conferences. She is a member of the Marie Curie Fellows Association (MCFA), the Hellenic Society for Biological Sciences (GEBE) and the Geotechnical Chamber of Greece (GEOTEE), the Hellenic Scientific Society for Genetic Improvement of Plants (EYEGF) and a member of the Board of Directors, and is the treasurer of the CERTH research association. Dr. Matesis Panagiotis participates in the implementation of funded projects, collaborates with private companies in conducting research for the purpose of plant improvement, and has developed the methodology for the identification of plant species such as important PDO products of Santorini fava, Prespa beans, cheese Feta olive oil, etc., and their traceability and the detection of possible fraud in commercial products, For this activity, he was awarded in September 2013 by the Ministry of Rural Development and in October 2013 by the President of the Republic.
